Physicians may often encounter patients who may be victims of human trafficking within clinical practice and will need to know how to recognize and identify the signs of human trafficking. Health care providers are often the only professional interaction a patient may have while being held in captivity. This training will teach physicians how to provide trauma-informed care to patients that have been determined to be victims of human trafficking.
After viewing this training, learners will be able to:
- Identify victims of human trafficking encountered in clinical practice
- Utilize appropriate clinical response and trauma-informed care to assist identified victims of human trafficking
- Recommend appropriate community-based resources and support services to patients who may be victims of human trafficking
Presenters:
Kimberly Chang, MD, MPH, is a family physician at Asian Health Services in Oakland. She is a co-founder and Executive Committee member of HEAL Trafficking.
Aisha Mays, MD, is a family physician and a clinical researcher in the UCSF Department of Family and Community Medicine.
