This will be a four-hour online training for qualified prescribers (including physicians, Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants) to receive half of the 8 hours of training required to obtain a MAT waiver for treatment of Opioid Use Disorder (OUD).

This will be a four-hour online training for qualified prescribers (including physicians, Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants) to receive half of the 8 hours of training required to obtain a Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) waiver for treatment of Opioid Use Disorder (OUD). Open to members and non-members of the SCMS/NCMS. Counts for 4 CME credits. 

At the completion of the activity, the learner will be able to:

• Recognize the history and causes of the opioid epidemic
• Recognize the pharmacology of relevant buprenorphine and how it is used to treat OUD
• Assess, screen, and monitor patients starting or continuing treatment
• Design an appropriate, safe treatment plan for patients with OUD
• Exemplify increased empathy and reduce stigma surrounding OUD 

PRESENTER:

Doctor Kenneth Saffier, MD, FASAM, is a family physician with Contra Costa Regional Medical Center’s Family Medicine Residency, He specializes in addiction medicine and chronic pain management, and is board certified in family and addiction medicine. Dr. Saffier is the president of the Medical Education and Research Foundation for the Treatment of Addiction, a 501c(3) organization designed to integrate addiction medicine into residency curricula and primary care medical practices (www.merfweb.org).
